Strain Reliefs and Junctions
Molded Strain Reliefs
A strain relief is primarily a means of securing a cable to a device. The most common is the clamp/crimp type. They are effective when properly applied. However, improperly installed they can damage the cable, and/or degrade the assembly whereas, a molded strain relief bonds to the outer cable jacket and causes no electrical or mechanical risks. Plus, molded reliefs actually extend the bend radius of the cable and increases life and reliability to the end product. The final benefit to a molded strain relief is it provides a “finished look” to your product.
Over molding a termination within a cable assembly or cord set provides both physical strength and an environmental seal. Most applications do require a custom mold. We use simple single cavity molds to keep expenses to a minimum. All our molds are modular (inserts) and sometimes we can use existing parts at no extra costs.
